What's New in Easel

January 2026

Resume Carve

Has your machine ever stopped running during a carve? Perhaps you lost power, your machine was accidentally disconnected, or you had to press the emergency stop button. Now, instead of starting the carve over from the beginning, Easel Pro customers can pick up the carve exactly where it left off - saving time and peace of mind!

This new feature, now available to all Easel Pro subscribers, allows you to restart a carve from any point in the toolpaths. Recover from interruptions more quickly with Resume Carve!

Step by Step Walkthrough

To resume a carve that got interrupted, first select the "Resume Carve" option from the new dropdown option on the "Carve" button:

Image

This will launch a carve walkthrough much like the one you're used to, except that there will be a new step to select the starting point for the carve right before you kick it off:

Image

On this step you have a few different controls to make it possible to zero in on the exact point where you want to begin the carve:

  1. Slider control. Use the slider to quickly get close to your intended starting position
  2. Step buttons. Use the step buttons to move one point at a time either forward or backward.
  3. Point window. Use the point window to either select or verify the starting position. The Z value, in particular, can be helpful to confirm the depth at which the carve will begin. A negative Z value is below the material surface. A positive Z value is above the material surface.

Warning: When starting a carve in the middle, it is important to exercise extra caution to make sure you are choosing a safe starting point.

Trimming Line Segments

We have added an option to remove path segments in Easel.

When in path editing mode you can now hold Cmd or Ctrl to trim away segments of the design you want to get rid of. This will speed up cleaning the imported designs and splitting shapes.

The feature is available for on-path cuts. Pocket fills, outside and inside cuts are not supported.

FluidNC Motion Control (Beta)

FluidNC is now available as a motion control option in Easel Setup. If your machine uses FluidNC, this will allow you to connect to your machine and carve right from Easel without downloading g-code.

This feature is currently available for testing in open Beta. To utilize this new motion control option in Easel, simply select the FluidNC motion control option in Machine Setup. We look forward to your feedback as we continue expanding machine-support capabilities in Easel!

Please note that because this is in Beta, it is possible that some machine control features may not function correctly. Caution is advised.

Monogram generator

Easel has a new monogram generator that makes it easy to carve names, initials, or other text embellished with one of several built-in designs. Easel positions and sizes your text within the design to make it carveable as an engraving or cutout.

Monogram generator

To use the Easel's monogram generator, open the Monogram Application in the App Library:

Monogram button|240x240

You can change the text, font, or style of a monogram you've already generated by clicking the Edit Monogram button in the Shape panel.

For now, the monogram generator is available to all Easel and Easel Pro users.

Snap alignment

We recently added alignment guides to Easel to help align shapes to each other or to the center or edge of the material.

Guide lines appear when the center or an edge of the shapes you’re dragging are close to another center or edge, and the dragging shapes will snap to align with the guide. Guides also appear when dragging shapes horizontally or vertically to help keep them aligned with their starting position. Holding the Command or Ctrl key while dragging disables the guides.

Seeking feedback: New Milling Direction

We’re rolling out a beta for a new, powerful feature: Milling Direction for offset fills. Before this becomes a Pro feature, we’d love your feedback! You’ll be able to choose from:

  • Default: Our current toolpath. The direction of cuts is variable.
  • Climb (CCW): Forces a counter-clockwise toolpath. This method typically creates a cleaner surface finish and is easier on your bits.
  • Conventional (CW): Forces a clockwise toolpath. This method can be useful for preventing tear-out on certain materials and reducing backlash.

This feature is currently in beta — and available to all Easel users. Try it out, share your feedback, and help us shape the final version.

New Drawing Modes

Easel’s drawing tools just got a big upgrade! Learn more in the video update on our YouTube channel!

Image

The Pen Tool now comes with three powerful drawing modes to give you more control and creativity in your designs:

  • Straight Lines: Click to place points and Easel connects them with straight segments. Double-click or press Esc to finish your shape, or connect back to an existing point to close it.
  • Curved Lines: Add points to create smooth flowing curves between them — perfect for organic shapes and curvatures.
  • Arcs: Define your start and end points, then drag your mouse to set the arc’s radius before clicking to lock it in.

You can also now connect a new line directly to the endpoint of another, automatically merging them into a single, unified shape. See these new capabilities in action in the image below!

This update makes sketching precise lines, curves, and arcs in Easel faster, smoother, and more flexible than ever.

Alignment Tool & Design Updates

We've added a new menu for Alignment Tools in Easel!

Image

This menu makes it easier to align, distribute, and layout elements in your Easel designs. You can also quickly combine shapes, and adjust the layering of shapes in your designs by moving them above or below other elements in the design.

Image

That's not all! You'll also notice some new icons for the design toolbar, as we'll as a one-click option for Image Trace - now easily accessible from the toolbar!
