I would like to make this, but doesn't it interfere with the locking mechanism for the collet on the dewalt 611?

It does, I take it off every time I have to change bits. I used a Wing nut so that I can loosen it quickly without tools. One other thing, use some strong wood, after some months of use the tabs for the bolts broke.
