General Information

This project will allow you to cut out a hole that fits a JessEm Rout-R-Lift II router lift. It leaves the appropriate ledge for the lift's leveling screws and bolts.

I have set this to cut to a depth of 11mm so that the top of the lift is guaranteed to be lower than the top of the workbench so you can use the leveling screws to raise it up. If you want to live dangerously, you could set it to only cut to 10mm and maybe you wouldn't have to use any leveling screws.

The shape of the opening was a perfect fit for me -- snug on all sides -- but you should absolutely do a test cut on some scrap before cutting this project into material that you care about.

This project does not cut the holes for the mounting bolts. I drilled them afterwards and used threaded inserts, but you might choose to make them a different size and use nuts underneath to secure the lift to your workbench.

I'm a newbie to woodworking. I used your template that you sent to inventables. I'm using the X-Carve. When finished, it was 1/2 inch bigger the lift. This has occurred twice. The deminsion of the work piece is 30" X 27" using an 1/8" compression bit. What am I not seeing?

My initial assumption was that the X-Carve was cutting around the outside of the shape instead of on the inside, but that would only make it 1/4" bigger in each direction. Is it exactly 1/2" bigger in both directions? What is the width of your router lift's top plate?

Christopher Finke

Jack Hibbard

It is exactly 1/4 in as you think.

I'm not sure what to do?

Actually, since it clears out the pocket, I don't think it could be cutting on the wrong side of the line. Can you measure the width of your router lift and post it here to confirm that it's the same model and/or hasn't changed?

It measures 11.750 x 9.250. The model # is 02310

That matches mine. The only other thing I can think of would be to try and cut this version: https://easel.inventables.com/projects/wU4y2lxT306nzWR5tOYgvA that I've adjusted by .25" in each direction, and see if that comes close enough.

Thank you Christopher. I watch your videos and they are very useful.

I ran the update. The dimensions are 9 5/16" x 12"

Could adjust it to 11 3/4? Thank you

Ok, I've adjusted the width of the opening in https://easel.inventables.com/projects/wU4y2lxT306nzWR5tOYgvA another .25", so hopefully it comes out to 11.75." Have you tried any other Easel projects? Do they come out to the appropriate size?

I haven't tried other projects for a long time. I'll keep you posted when I do. Thanks again!!

I'm still 1/8 too big. I think that I'll just cut it out with my hand router (burning thru too much plywood. Thx for everything.
