Great introduction to tiling project, thanks! Carved on my XCP, red cedar, 90* V bit. Painted one and went "rustic" on the other. Turned out great!

Do you paint the entire thing and then sand it to get just the numbers and scale painted?

I used acrylic paint and a paint brush to get inside the cutouts, then sanded any mistakes. Went pretty quick. I think the cedar would need to be sealed if I was going to pain the whole thing and sand it back.
