I've made these from 3/4" UMDF, Black Walnut, and Purple Heart Wood so far. The shallow holes in the corners are for 8mm x 3mm magnets (available on Amazon) to hold the two pieces together. I rounded over the outer edges on my router table. I've also carved designs on the outer halves as well.

Also, here's a link to the magnets I used. They come in a package of 100. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B3SDRCP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Is the underside of the lid just flat?
Kurt Canez · February 03, 2020
No. The lid is a mirror image of the bottom. Each half is 3/4” think, and carved 1/2” deep, giving a 1” space when closed, and allowing you to do a 1/16” or 1/8” deep carving in the outside of the lid, for decoration purposes.

Great design! I've had a lot of enjoyment using this as a template!

Do you think the character tray would be big enough to support as a dice tray? Add felt to bottom?
Paul Santellana · July 11, 2021
Paul, The minis section is the same depth as the dice spots, and I use mine to store more dice instead over lots of minis. Mine is lined with felt too. As far as using it as a dice rolling tray, it is a bit on the small side for that, but could be used in a pinch.

William, Thanks so much! This was the first dice box design that I made, and there are quite a few others that I’ve designed for my Etsy shop.
