Actually used cedar for this project. Recesses face inside for roof and floor, birds are for outer side so remove until board is flipped. Recesses and entry hole were cut with 1/4 inch bit, skyline and small ventilation holes were cut with 1/8 inch and birds were carved with 60 degree v-bit. The back side panel added through cut is positioned for rain drainage and a table saw was used to shape the roof piece to fit through that slot (base and roof both made via miter and table saws). Rear panel is held on via dowel pins only with no glue so it can be removed for cleaning.
