Use a 1/32" bit to etch a checkers grid into one side of the HDPE

flip HDPE sheet, being careful to align it in the correct position. Etch the chess pattern with a 1/32" bit and cut the profile

Glue pieces into stacks to create the taller pieces, leaving single height parts as pawns. Sand the sides smooth once completed

How did you cut out the chess pieces? What was the bit size?

Thanks for sharing! I modified your designs to make a larger set from cherry and purpleheart. Love it. If I were to do it again I think I would try etching the grid after cutting the profile. Also, I'd recommend to anyone making this to cut the profile with a 1/16" or larger bit, not a 1/32".
