Hi all!
Here's a link to my kooky coasters! I made mine 1/4 inches thick, (each), so if you have a planer and plane down 1/2 inch stock, you should be in good shape. You don't have to, but make sure to change your settings if you don't (because right now the program is set for 1/4 inch material).
These are really easy to make and really visually exciting. Given the stock size of the Inventables material (6 inches by 12 inches), you'll need 2 boards. So I have 2 coasters per page for the 4 coaster set, as well as each individual coaster on additional pages (if you want to do a matching set, you can by copying and pasting).
Please note that there are white boxes covering some of the carve/design lines. It was very difficult to keep the smooth waves/lines by deleting nodes, so I chose instead to cover them with white boxes.
First step (after getting your desired thickness) is clamp down your board!
Put your 1/16th inch upcut fishtail in place, hit carve, zero your bit, and away we go! Each page of 2 (first 2 pages) will take appx 27 minutes.
Step Two: After the first carve is complete, remove that stock and insert the next stock material, move to the second page, and repeat step one! Easy peasey lemon squeezy!
I did cover mine with a laquer before carving to give it that dark orangish/cherry wood sheen, but it's not necessary if you don't want.
If you have any questions, let me know!!!
Thanks for browsing, and as always, happy carving!
