General Information

A simple and quick build project to raise your monitor or laptop. By raising the laptop to your eye level will help you prevent eyestrain and neck pain on those long working hours. This stand will also help to reduce clutter on your desk by giving extra space underneath to place different objects.

Carving

Before we start carving we first have to glue de 2 mdf pieces together over night.

We will begin by cutting the top part of the stand: Start by securing the glued piece of mdf to the X-Carve using a couple of screws. The piece of wood has to have at least 300mm x 500mm x 12mm. The first carve will be using a 90° 1/4in (6mm) V-bit to create a chamfer on the piece. On the rest of the pocketing and cutting programmes a 1/8in (3mm) double flute bit is used.

Stand Legs: For the Legs secure the plywood piece piece with 300mm x 500mm x 12mm and carve using the 1/8in(3mm) double flute bit.

Estimated time: 60 minutes

Sanding and glueing

After finishing cutting your pieces give it a good sanding and glue the leg pairs in a sandwich using some wood clamps so they are 24mm thick.

As soon as the legs have dried you can glue the top part with the legs using some wood glue and clamps.

Estimated time: 30 minutes

Finishing

When you have all assembled and glued give it a good finishing, use either a wood oil or a varnish depending on your desired finish. (Test on scrap wood first before applying directly on the finished piece)

Estimated time: 20 minutes

Last Remarks

This is a great project to build on a weekend with family or friends. If you build this project please experiment using different materials/colours either for the legs or the top shelf. As a Portuguese Maker I will like to try doing mine with coloured mdf for the top shelf and cork for the legs, but do feel free to experiment with different materials and also tweaking the dimensions of the stand to fit your desktop setup if you use two monitors. Hope you liked building this project, if you would like please share with the #makerØ would love to see some of the results!
