(Optional) Paint Wood
I painted this soft maple with a white paint so the text would really pop. I waited an hour for the wood to dry before carving. Check the dry time instructions for your paint to make sure your carving surface is clean before carving.

Customize, Insert V-bit, and Carve!
Easel Pro makes carving this project super easy.
Customize the Easel Pro file with whatever names you'd like to carve. Insert a 90 degree (or 60 degree) v-bit into your X-Carve or Carvey. Hit "Carve" and watch the magic happen!

@nelliebellie - I painted white on the wood before carving. The wood was exposed when the bit carved through the white paint. Soft Maple is a light wood, but the v-bit still went deep enough to create a shadow that makes it look darker.

@nelliebellie you could also use a darker wood (like walnut) to get a darker look on the text. You can also use a paint mask if you want the letters to be painted and the wood to be natural.
