Intro

How to make a number puzzle for Kids using Easel and the X-Carve. Simple and easy!!

Estimated time: 4 minutes

2

Material

Cut two pieces of 1/4" birch plywood to 11.5"W x 8.625"H

Estimated time: 2 minutes

3

Load project in Easel

Load project in Easel and send it to the X-Carve to cut.

4

Carve!!

Sit back and watch the X-Carve cut away.

Estimated time: 30 minutes

5

Cut Tabs

Once the X-Carve is done, cut the tables of with a sharp utility knife. Be careful!

6

Glue Up.

Glue the piece with the letters cut out to the second pieces of plywood. Make sure you don't get any glue where the numbers go. Us claps to hold the two pieces together while the glue drys.

Estimated time: 5 minutes

7

Paint the Numbers

Using craft paint, paint the numbers. I used 5 colors, red, yellow, green, purple and orange. Or you can paint the numbers any color you want.

Estimated time: 8 minutes

8

Sand

Sand the edge of the puzzle board so that everything is nice and smooth. I rounded the corners of the board as well. Don't want sharp points to hurt the kids.

Estimated time: 8 minutes

9

Glue on Knobs

I used a 1/8" dowel and cut 3/16" long pieces to glue on the numbers. To help keep the knobs straight I used a square to line them up.

Estimated time: 6 minutes

Finish

I sprayed everything with a spray on Polyurethane. My kids are out of the "put everything in your mouth" stage. So I want worried about the finish. There are kid friendly finishes out there if you are worried about your child putting the pieces in their mouth. Do a quick Google search to find natural wood finishes.

Estimated time: 5 minutes

Brian, I had this same issue... you need to go into Easel with it open and go to "File... Share"...

Maybe add some holes to the numbers so you can just glue the dowel handles straight in there.

In addition to the precut holes, I used a plastic hangher to make the small dowel handles. Working great and always available.
