I made this frame to fit some artwork that a friend of mine created.
I still need to:
- sand, paint, and finish
- cut out an acrylic piece for the "glass"
- cut a back board piece and install clips or turn buttons
- install hanging hardware

Painting tips?
I'm getting ready to finish this picture frame. I want to paint the engraved portions, and only those portions. I didn't mask the material before carving. I was thinking I would paint the engraved portions, and then sand the surface flat and smooth once the paint is dry to clean up any paint imperfections on the surface. Let me know if you have any tips for how to go about this or what types of paint and finishes I should use. Thanks!
I'd approach this a couple of ways. If you want really bright glossy colors you could potentially use a syringe and colored resin. I would probably just use acrylic paints, small brushes, and a few swear words when I got paint on the surface and just sand it off later.
I did a sign using this method. I'd get a small brush that you can fit into the holes and crevices because it was a lot harder than I expected to sand the paint off the areas where I didn't want the paint.
Came off the CNC pretty nice! Flip milling alignment was successful too :) Just need to cut the plexiglass insert and backing piece, and work on painting and finishing!
Thank you! I hadn't published it since I'm still working on painting and finishing - but I've gotten a positive enough response to it while it's in progress that I decided to share it to the gallery :)
I'd love to see your take on it if you decide to remake it!

I used an extra fine Posca acrylic paint marker for the red "LOVE" text in the rainbow sign I made and this worked really well.

Also I'd have a wet paper towel in hand so if you do get some on the frame areas you can wipe it off quickly to minimize the sanding.

Do you plan to share this picture frame in the gallery?

If I ever finish it lol! It's mostly there but still a few more steps left before I'd call it done
