It looks like your inlay pocket and plug are made from the same material. You might explore making one out of a contrasting color like Walnut or a colored MDF. You could also try filling it with epoxy
Here are the 3 stages of the inlay the finished eagle has a lot of small chips I had the walnut 3 + years ad it was pretty dry. speed 1800 inches and spindle 14,000rpm. I think it was a chalenging carve
Looks like there were a couple issues around some of the smaller circles and the edges around curved points. I' wonder if this is just a function of the wood grain or if a minimum size is needed to maintain integrity of the material.
I had some issues with the end result very minute pieces of the walnut chipping, bare noticeable. The depth of the cut was 5 mm, this might have played a part in this issue. Next carve inlay I'll drop down the depth of cut to 4mm.

Hi! I just finished carving the first part of the inlay. I just hope that all the little circles don't chip out. I did this same eagle with epoxy.

I'd also love to see how a little saw dust and wood glue rubbed into the chips would even out those edges.

The whole purpose of the v bit inlay is to check out what works the settings etc. I figured trying a challenging carve is just what the doctor ordered

I’m happy to do it. I just thought the eagle would be a good project
