Make a sharpening-stone holder

Design a shallow stone recess in Easel so the sharpening surface stays above its wooden holder and your fingers can lift the stone out.

Start from a blank workpiece

Design your own sharpening-stone holder

The animation below starts with a blank Easel workpiece and draws a pine holder with a fitted recess for one sharpening stone. A shallow recess locates the stone and two finger reliefs let you lift it out; the sharpening stone is a separate part. Use a 150 × 50 × 6 mm stone as an untested design reference. Draw a 200 × 100 mm base in 18 mm pine. Add a centered 154 × 54 mm recess, 3 mm deep, then two 24 mm circular reliefs meeting its long sides at the same depth. This gives the reference stone 4 mm total clearance in both directions, leaves its sharpening face 3 mm above the holder and retains 15 mm of pine beneath it. Cut the outer profile, remove the holding tabs and smooth the edges. Verify the actual stone’s fit and the holder’s stability before sharpening.

The open holder keeps the abrasive face accessible while the removable lid covers the stone for storage.

Sharpening stone box

Max’s pine box has a removable lid and a base fitted around a sharpening stone. His single shared workpiece supplies five shapes for the base and lid profiles and recesses in 0.92-inch stock; each outer profile is about 8.66 × 2.86 inches. The main stone cavity is 7.8125 × 2 inches and the lid recess is 8 × 2.3125 inches. Measure your stone against the cavity dimensions and allow lifting clearance before adapting the file; the open-box photograph shows the stone seated above the base.
