Start from a blank workpiece

Draw a coin pocket with a slot at the top

Watch a new blank workpiece become a rectangular bank body with a circular recess and a narrow slot connecting it to the top edge. Set the outer rectangle to an outside outline cut and the circle and slot to pocket cuts. The native 3D preview shows the recess taking shape. This is a starting layout, not an assembled bank: size the slot for your coins, leave enough wood behind the pocket and add a removable cover before making yours.

Add a clear face, painted animal or carved front

A clear face lets you see the coins collect. Painted animal shapes make a colorful gift, while a box leaves room for a carved scene. Choose the construction and finishing work you want to try.

Use a separate back instead of hollowing thick stock

Batton describes changing his letter bank to accept a glued-on back rather than hollowing out all the wood. A layered bank can use a thin back and thicker pieces around the coin space. His E bank uses a thin luan back, pine layers and an acrylic front. Choose the layer thicknesses together so the coins have room to collect.

Check the finishing-pass time before enlarging a relief

Marcisz warns that a larger 3D carve can take a long finishing pass, and calls out bit step-over as part of that decision. Before scaling up a decorative bank front, compare the estimated carve time with the detail you want. A larger carving is not simply a larger box.
