A rectangular wooden holder with honeycomb carving and three orange candles on a windowsill Tri Hex Votiveby Eric Pavey

Tri Hex Votive

Decorate a long wooden holder with hexagons around three candle pockets. Eric’s photographed build uses scrap redwood; he recommends harder wood to keep the fine details crisp. The shared file has separate stages for the V-bit borders, smaller honeycomb detail and endmill pockets. Allow enough stock around the detail pattern, and trim the board ends separately as his instructions describe. His safety note says to use self-contained metal-tin votives, not the bare candles in the photo.

Use separate cutters for the ring and its large opening

Rafi Bernstein describes cutting the outside with a one-eighth-inch bit and clearing the candle opening with a larger bit. Fred Housel replies that he recommends separating those operations, while keeping the shared beginner version simple. The larger opening does not need to be cleared with the same small cutter used around the ring.
